Bertie Plaatsman

Bertie Plaatsman is a Dutch-born photographer, and awarded documentary filmmaker based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Her work shows a high level of curiosity with a mixture of portrait, landscape, architecture, abstract and street photography. She often combines current and historical images to express the passage of time.

With her intimate and sensitive approach she captures people and their everyday lives in an authentic way, creating moving stories to which people can relate.

While still studying, she made her first documentary Close to Home, which won the Best New Zealand Short Award at the Documentary Edge Film Festival in 2014. Her second film Building One screened both in New Zealand and Australia.

Her latest film Four Sisters, about four Dutch sisters who lived in the Netherlands during World War II, is in post-production.
